Cards bat around in 2nd and coast to victory.
The Cardinals batted around in the 2nd plating 4 runs, and held on for dear life in the 9th as Neil Allen picked up a dubious save. After Brad Komminsk singled in a run to close the gap to 1, Allen picked him off for the 2nd out of the inning. Allen then retired Claudell Washington to pick up the save.
In other news around baseball, Minnesota is off to a tremendous start and hold a commanding 8 1/2 game lead in the AL West. in the East, Toronto is a game and a half up on the Tigers who started the season with 10 straight wins. Cincinnati holds the best record in baseball at 29-8, and will come to St. Louis for a weekend series.
Manager notes…
Nothing to interesting, brought in Horton (LHP) to face Perry (LHB) with runners on 1+2 and 2 outs in a 1 run game. Duh. I brought in Allen in the 9th, because he’s earned it with his performance this year, and double switched in Landrum for Van Slyke. Landrum is an outstanding fielder, better than Van Slyke, so I won defensively and also moved the pitcher out of the way in case they tied it up.
